WHERE IT ALL BEGAN
The Same Old New Year
Each new year brings many things to our lives. Some of these things can be wonderful! Things like a promotion at work, new life found in a brand new baby, or even just the satisfaction of accomplishing a life goal. Some of the new year’s surprises can be not so much fun. In fact some things can be just awful! It is when these times come that we face one of the biggest challenges that we ever will face. We have the choice to rely on our own strength and see how much we can handle, or we can trust on our never failing God to provide exactly what we need.
How often is it that we try to do everything ourselves? Like a toddler who learned to tie his shoe, we suddenly feel able to accomplish the clearly impossible tasks that life throws at us. We take them on with a headstrong attitude and try to pummel each one to the ground. As we fight more and more, harder and harder, we start to see our trials almost ganging up on us. Problems we thought we had solved come back and beat on us over and over again. When that time comes we start to see how un-able we truly are.
The bible tells us:
“For the foolishness of God is wiser than man's wisdom, and the weakness of God is stronger than man's strength.” 1 Corinthians 1:25 NIV
So if on His worst day, which is never, God is still much more able than us, why do we struggle to trust Him? He has the power to do all things. He has the strength to accomplish anything. He has the wisdom to solve any problem. Sounds like a guy you want on your side right? The truth is this: HE IS!
If you are keeping a list of resolutions for this new year add this to it:
“I resolve to trust God’s strength rather than my own, to look to His wisdom in my struggles, and to allow His power to work in my life.”
I encourage you to stick to this one and watch as He moves in your life. It really can be the greatest year yet
